What type of therapy is used at The Couples Therapy Clinic?
The Couples Therapy Clinic uses an integrative approach, meaning we don’t limit ourselves to just one therapeutic modality. Instead, we draw from a range of evidence-based therapies that are tailored to the unique needs of each couple. Our approach considers each partner's personality and the specific dynamics at play in your relationship.
Some of the evidence-based therapeutic models we incorporate include:
- Systemic Therapy
- Attachment Therapy
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Integrative Behavioural Couples Therapy
- Relational Life Therapy
- Gottman Therapy
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Polyvagal Theory
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
What can I expect from our first session?
In your first session, we spend 90 minutes taking the time to understand what each partner sees as the issues in the relationship and what your goals are for therapy. By the end of this session, we provide some initial insights into what may be keeping your relationship stuck and what steps will need to be taken to create lasting change.
The first session is also a great opportunity for you and your partner to get a feel for your therapist and determine if The Couples Therapy Clinic is the right fit for you. Research shows that the relationship you have with your therapist is one of the most important factors in determining whether therapy is successful.
If, after the first session, you or your partner don’t feel that we’re the right fit, we encourage you to find a therapist you “click” with. We’re committed to not wasting anyone’s time or money!
Can I book an appointment if both my parter and I are neurotypical?
Absolutely! We're happy to support both neurotypical and neurodivergent couples and individuals.
How often would we attend appointments?
